The second semester, students selected for their unit of study, "Go to Your Destiny", with
emphasis placed on the study of the Olympics and what prompts the participants to want to
compete again and again. Students selected an Olympian to conduct an in-depth study. Some
of the activities included poems of different forms, mobiles, models of the field, court or area
where the sport is played, biographic collage, and oral presentation with a biographic sketch
written in first person accompanied by a bio-board prop.
Presentations were made with the music Stars and Stripes as an introduction.
The unit of study placed emphasis on the daily skills of determination, perseverance, courage
and trust needed in order to be a successful leader and citizen.
The students' work was displayed for the entire week of May 14-18,2001 at Armstrong Elementary School for
parents, students, teachers and administrators to view.
