Parent of the Year

Mrs. Shirley Williams, mother of seven, selected "Parent of the Year 2001" for the Greenville Public School District. Of the seven children, three make up a set of triplets. Even though her schedule is filled with home chores, beauty salon and church involvement, she makes time to be actively involved in her children's' school.

Currently, Mrs. Williams is serving as PTA president of Armstrong Elementary School where she has been involved for several years. As president, she received awards for dedication and service for the years 1997-2000. She has served as room mother for her triplets since kindergarten. They are now eight years old and in the third grade. Mrs. Williams has also been serving as a committee member of Federal Programs.

Mrs. Williams expresses a strong love for Armstrong School. She says, "It has been a pleasure for me to serve. I love to prepare snacks, provide books, and read to the students. Affiliation with the PTA has broadened my knowledge and experience with the operation of the schools. These appointments have afforded me a variety of situations requiring social interaction and personality growth for me. I have made myself available to the school to serve them in any way that I can. I care about Armstrong and I appreciate the services that the school provides for my children."

Mrs. Williams is the wife of Mr. Jimmy Williams
