Security

During the 1999-2000 school year, the Board of Directors created the position of
Chief of Security. Marvin Minor, former Chief of Police for the City of Greenville,
was tapped for the position with instructions to undertake a program of total
upgrade for the Greenville Public School District's security program.

Mission:

The mission of the Greenville Public Schools security department is
to facilitate the development and maintenance of a comprehensive
security and safety program designed to foster an environment
wherein students, educators, parents and others legitimately on
school district properties can function without fear of personal
violence, harassment,  anxiety or hatred, while working together to
educate all children for all times.

Over the past few years, security personnel have received numerous training
sessions, in areas such as Search, Anger Management, First Aid, CPR and other
subject matter designed to enhance service delivery to the District's student,
teacher and parent population. Similar training sessions have
also been conducted during Staff Development at various school sites.

All sites received an initial security assessment and continue to be  periodically reevaluated for improvements and compliance. Secondary  school sites,
Greenville and Weston campuses and Coleman have had  video surveillance
systems installed. These systems have had a profound  impact on campus
security and overall site management by the principals.
